Profile
With over two decades of architectural design experience in the profession, Hans Walter, AIA has been a design leader on several complex, highly technical projects for nationally recognized healthcare institutions including the Cleveland Clinic, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Allegheny Health Network, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and the Mount Saini Health System. These clients have trusted Hans to understand the needs of their staff and the patients they ultimately serve. He is committed to designing environments that balance the technical demands of healing with the psychological needs of caring.
In his current role as a Senior Associate at DLR Group, Hans is managing the design and implementation of a 272,000 SF suburban prototype Medical Office Building and Ambulatory Surgery Center that will serve as the chassis for outpatient care in the Columbus area for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The flexible planning module can accommodate various medical specialties and will be adapted to a location’s market needs to best serve the community. The prototype incorporates a common design language based on the institution’s brand and standards to communicate world class care.
Hans spent the first decade of his career after graduating magna cum laude from Syracuse University working with the design firm of Ennead Architects in New York City. Upon relocating to Cleveland over ten years ago, Hans began integrating exceptional aesthetic design into an efficient healthcare system. Hans holds an Evidenced Based Design Accreditation from the Center for Health Design. He serves as the Chairman of the Shaker Heights Architectural Board of Review and has volunteered with the ACE Mentorship program which facilitates high school student’s entry into the Architecture, Construction and Engineering industries.
