MORNING KEYNOTE: Healthcare on the Precipice: The Promise and Perils of Healthcare's Future
Thursday,May 05, 2022:9:00 AM -10:15 AM
Healthcare is on the precipice of enormous transformation brought on by the increasing sophistication and volume of diagnostic tools, therapies, pharmaceuticals and digital technology. However, healthcare is also on another precipice—one that threatens to send it, and all of this promise, plummeting out of control into an economic black hole. Runaway administrative costs, dramatically shrinking margins for hospitals, the rapidly increasing burden on patients to pay out of pocket, and an equally onerous burden on doctors and clinicians to handle paperwork over patients, and a healthcare system that still silos data in myriad proprietary repositories, is crippling healthcare and the promise it could otherwise deliver. Thomas Koulopoulos, author of 13 books including his most recent, Reimagining Healthcare, will present a practical look at where heathcare is heading and how we can bend its arc by getting beyond polarizing policy discussions and pursuing options that are readily available to make reengineering healthcare possible within the coming decade.
